About Heidi

Heidi loves her mobile phone photography as a hobby. When she first became interested in photography, she used a small, compact camera to photograph all types of subjects.

Patterns, shapes, shadows and quirky architecture on the street, fascinate her, but her favourite is street photography.

She often became annoyed when she saw great picture opportunities but didn’t have her camera with her. But after getting her first mobile phone it became her camera of choice: “Because I always had it with me and getting shots of what I saw on the streets of towns and cities was quick and easy,” she said.

“I can be discreet, and no one notices a camera phone whereas a larger camera is way too conspicuous”.

Her favourite subjects are candid pictures of people and objects in public spaces, often in gritty or grungy locations that she sometimes enhances using monochrome (black and white).

“It’s the chance encounters, where subjects are not posed, which makes the mobile camera phone the perfect tool”, Heidi said.

She also likes to challenge the rules of photography. Sometimes shots don’t work out, but Heidi said she doesn’t mind, because it pushes the limits of her camera phone.

About Greg

From the age of 16 Greg has always enjoyed photography as a hobby, but there have been a couple of times during his working career that his photography skills have been called upon and later while working at a Geelong newspaper he accidently fell into the role of a press photographer.
These days he prefers to call himself a hobby photographer, shooting his favourite subject, nature images, animals, birds, flowers, and subjects that make up the natural world.

He uses a digital camera, and he prefers to use all the tools the modern camera has to get the shot and says he does minimal editing in post-production but admits he has rescued a few images using the capabilities of digital computer editing programs.

“This minimal editing probably harks back to when I used film.

“You had to be really accurate with focus and exposure. The camera I used then was a 120 roll-film camera which gave me only 12 shots per roll and I never saw the results until I got the film back from the chemist. The modern digital cameras are complex tools, and they offer the photographer so much and it’s great that I don’t need to buy film”.
