21. Envy Under the Microscope 1 - Resistance by Carole Redlich

Medium: Textiles - machine knitting

Height: 119 cm

Artist’s Statement: Envy is like a wound or tumor, an ulcer of the mind, and canker of the body. Its corrosive action is said to impair the vital process of digestion, resulting in “grievous maladies”. Ovid personified Envy as a grotesque figure with ‘sallow cheeks’, ‘shrunk body’, ‘decayed teeth’ and venom-coated tongue’.
